“I decided to make a head bust of my eldest daughter when she was 18 months old as I’d never sculpted a child before. I thought it would be an interesting challenge as well as a cool legacy sculpture. When my younger daughter turned 18 months old six years later, I of course had to do the same! I love having the sculptures at home, memorializing my beautiful daughters at the same age and I think my children feel honored that I sculpted them. But in all honesty, these were probably the least fun and most frustrating head busts I’ve ever made. It is extremely hard to achieve the true likeness and essence of a person. I normally just use my models as inspiration and give myself full license to deviate from their features as much as I see fit. With my daughters, I was striving for exact representation and yet felt I was falling short."
