“My favorite part of the sculpture-making process is the first night or two of a new pose when I am working fast and furious, uninhibited and free, without a plan.”

About Amy
Amy Contreras is a figurative sculptor who grew up in Los Angeles, California. She first discovered her love of clay and the human figure in middle and high school, but her sculpting journey truly began when she became a student of Jonathan Bickart in the early 1990s.
Amy’s work ranges from traditional busts and statuettes to hanging sculptures and functional pieces. While she predominantly works in traditional clays, she also casts her work in bronze and incorporates multi-media materials.
“Jonathan’s keen eye and tasteful critiques have an important hand in my sculptures and I’m so grateful for his anatomical instruction, encouragement to continue honing my skills, and guided exposure to new and old artists alike. He inspires me to make my art say something.”
